  1. Flowmaster says:

Because they want to hear them bash Bush. They both suffer from Bush derangement syndrome.

  2. Reality has a Liberal Bias says:

You don’t understand our system of justice, do you?

    Take a Civics class.

  3. u_bin_called says:

well….once the decision was made to have criminal trials in civilian court you cannot then bend the rules and deny a person in court the right to a public defender…

…I’m a bit more concerned with Obama’s demand that they be tried in New York and then his swift reversal once the real-world facts finally sunk in….I’m also more concerned with Eric Holder’s public guarantee that the defendants “will be found guilty…” Statements like that from an Attorney General, especially one who bashed his predecessors’ policies, seem amateurish and reckless..

  4. Beardog says:

Because without lawyers, it’s not a fair trial. He’s trying to prove to the world that American ideals work. Wasn’t that the point of “spreading freedom” to Iraq?

And I’d like to know, where is all this budget watching and penny pinching when Republicans are in the White House? Did you know that President Bush doubled the national debt during his terms, and President Reagan tripled it during his? Now President Obama springs for a couple lawyers, and you’re suddenly worried about the cost? Why didn’t it bother you when congressional republicans spent millions and millions of dollars to prove that Bill Clinton hit it with an intern?

  5. Hank Mardukas says:

They want to argue that foreign enemy combatants have Constitutional rights when in reality they are entitled to none. They also want to give them trials in civilian courts instead of a military tribunal. With these people calling the shots it’s no wonder the enemy thinks we are weak.

  6. GT5OOkr says:

its in the sixth amendment…. and it complies to not just citizens but “the accused”.
    Amendment VI

“In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.”
this was also backed up by the 14th
