The key was that people who have never voted, voted.

Being a young black guy competing with an old white guy =l

    New Media

  5. Pete T says:

obama spread the bull a little thicker

  6. DrooBey says:

Eight years of Bush/Cheney was the biggest key. The economic mess aided the problem. But if we had not already been sliding down (in several foreign and domestic areas) for several years, the market crisis could have easily been spun as needing a conservative in office.

  7. The Face in the Mirror says:

It’s the economy more than any other issue.

  8. yes says:

    Skin color…..and that’s no joke.

  9. wildflower says:

The elite mainstream media is for whoever is on the Democrat ticket. Most of Hollywood is extreme liberal and Democrats. None of them sought to explore Obama’s background, but were zealous to cover up for him. He was never asked any hard questions by them and always was given a pass by the media in every instance. It seems the majority of the American ppl. have become blind to the truth and want to be deceived with a passion.

  10. soulsearcher says:

He is the more visionary person, and people saw McCain as more of the same. We are in a terrible crisis with the economy and the war. People see that Bush and the GOP got us into, so how could more of the same get us out?

  11. Purple Rayne says:

Obama won because he ran a campaign based on the issues facing America. He ran a campaign that targeted the average American person and their day to day issues that affect us all. Obama ran a campaign based on change for the better. McCain and Palin ran a hate campaign.

  12. Enlightened Ehyeh asher ehyeh says:

People wanted to be able to say that they voted for the first Black president. Not African American either. Black an White. So he would be European African American.

Just like those that said I say Jesus walk on water. They all wanted to be part of he change. Jesus was for change to was he not. I say Jesus, I voted for Obama I part of the change. Marroons.

  13. HC Visigoth says:

“skin color” ? ridiculous. If that was it, we would’ve had President Keyes, President Jesse Jackson, President Sharpton…

There are a lot more people out there who would be likely to see his color as a liability than as an asset. He won *despite* his color, and his name, and his background. Pretty darned amazing.

  14. Iakona says:

lies, lies, lies simple as that, media bias, and people not knowing or caring about what socialism is or taking the time to look into it.

  15. Nathan W says:

McCain didn’t really seem to take a position on any issues. In a normal election that kind of strategy might have worked. When you’re running on the same party ticket as someone as unpopular as Bush, and trying to convince voters you’re different, you have to actually prove it by taking a stand on important issues, and taking a different stand. He didn’t, so a lot of swing voters just kind of assumed he was Bush 3.

  16. nave says:

They wanted a real CHANGE in the country. if i would vote (underage) i would vote for obama because i want to see some changes in this country.

  17. eccentric_chic07 says:

a lot more people voted this time around and i think ppl really wanted a change especially after what bush has done to us as a nation if mccain took office there wouldn’t be a change so im so happy that obama is president its going to take him a long time to clean up bush’s mess

  18. JOHN C says:

    Bush sucked….that was the key.

McCain should have opposed the socialistic bailout and made a distinction between him and Obama. Instead he proved he was just “McSame.” Why have a “psudo-socialist” when you can have the real thing?

I voted for McCain because the worst Republican is better than the best Democrat. (In theory that is. Bush was so horrible I’m not even sure that Obama will be worse.)

  19. Kingdomchild07 says:

The Unions, Big Corp, Mega Stars, Billionaires and media are the one that supports him ( of course they want some returns when He wins ).

In all elections if you have this people behind you, you will have the edge in winning. However it will be a very high price the Americans have to pay by them taking the bait of the President they offer or their choice.

  20. Sadie A says:

He built a platform around the word “change” when the majority of Americans were fed up with the status quo.

He ran for President as a member of the incumbent’s opposition, at the end of a term of a highly unpopular President.

The Democratic candidate was going to win this year. I think the better question is what did Obama do to defeat Hillary? What could Hillary have done better? The answer- she shouldn’t have been white.

  21. Antonio D says:

    1) Nice Campaign…Stayed away from name calling and used alot of Humility and Grace…Would Often complement McCain…

    2) Didn’t Pick Palin for a VP…McCain picked her to steal votes from the Hillary Crowd…

    3) Picked Biden as a VP…

    4) Wasn’t a Republican or associated with Bush..

    5) His party wasn’t in power when the economy went sour…

    6) He’s young…

    7) He sounds good….
    8) he’s half Black (No racial thing here…but it’s history…)

    9) Wasn’t part of the “Good Old rich Boy club…”

    10) Didn’t cheat on his wife or dump her for a barbie doll….

    11) He’s educated…didn’t graduate from the bottom of his class…

    12) Worked hard through his life and wasn’t given a “Silver Spoon” in his mouth from daddy or Grand Daddy…

    13) He’s in Touch…

    14) Hit the key states to get elected…

    15) Appealed across a wide range of people…not just the hillbilly rednecks…

    16) Had a defined plan for the economy and issues…

    17) Didn’t try to bank on the fact he was a “War Hero”

    18) No in fighting and loyalty with his staff…

    19) He played to the media…despite Fox’s attempt to derail him..

  22. margaret h says:

The Obama campaign used Karl Rove’s system.
    Brilliant, huh?
They may say they hate him but Rove is a genius and they know it.

McCain kept his word and accepted public financing for the general election.
He was unable to match the money that Obama had.

The biggest disadvantage that McCain had was the media.
    Period.
The study released last week about the negative coverage given to McCain vs. the positive coverage given to Obama said it all.
The media wanted Obama to be elected.
    They got their wish.

    I voted for McCain.
He was the better choice for America – by far.
This is truly a great loss for America. A sad day.
    May God protect us.

  23. Patricia M says:

I agree with the first responder about people who have not voted decided to go and vote and be counted. Also, I really think that Palin hurt McCain’s campaign. I am a woman and would have liked a woman to be VP – but not “ditzy” Palin. I, as an American I am proud on this special day.

  24. Elle says:

Here’s what I think: I am concerned about Obama’s win solely based on the fact that so many who voted for him did so based solely on the color of his skin. I do not feel many of his voters made an informed choice. Once other thing: the charisma card: it can be dangerous. Hitler had a very similar degree of mass appeal powered by his charisma. This is classic demagoguery. In Nazi Justiz, a book by Richard Lawrence Miller published by Paeger Publishers in 1995, the author describes this phenomenon in a part where he quotes how the people reacted to Hitler. Hitler went to a town and the people had woven a trail of flowers for him. Hitler stopped the motorcade and had the cars drive around the town while he walked through that main street talking to children and others, shaking hands, etc…Here’s what the people said about Hitler, taken from pg. 5 of the above book: “He is our true German Fuhrer. He would not let a flower, a bird, or a person be crushed if he knew it was to be done. He is enthroned in our hearts. Heaven sent him.” Does this sound familiar to how the masses have reacted towards Obama? Here’s the basic formula for how a demagogue gets into power: national crisis creates state of desperation, + classic demagoguery (silver tongue + high charisma), + ignorant masses which are easy to lead/mislead in the desperate position they are in. Just because demagoguery got him elected doesn’t mean he can’t be a good president though – he could turn out to be one of the best. So how will I treat his win? I can say that I hope he is a wonderful president and that he makes our lives and lives of others better. I hope he does good. However, I will keep a close eye.
